Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead are perfect local vacation spots to get away from the chaos. I recently spent a few days up in the mountains and found some fun ways to make the most of your time!

Rent a boat and cliff jump!- Unfortunately the road to Big Bear was closed on my most recent trip (make sure you call or check CHP for road closures before booking your trip!!!), but on previous trips we always rent a boat on Big Bear Lake. While the rental company does not permit you to swim off the boat, just bring towels to dry everything off and they’ll never know. (Shhh!) We find new jumping spots everytime by cruising the lake and keeping an eye out for spots that look easy to jump from or that other people are jumping from. It’s a fun adrenaline rush diving off the boat and swimming through the ice cold water to cliff jump. There are also a lot of cliff jumping spots that you can reach without a boat such as China Island.

Go thrifting! - Our favorite thrift shop is Mountain Thrift and Video. They had a nice amount of options and whole racks of clothes that were only $1!

Walk around the lake! - We stayed at a friend’s house in Lake Arrowhead and spent a good amount of time in Lake Arrowhead Village. We went for meals, dessert, shopping, and sunsets. One of our favorite stores to browse in was Jurassic Fossils. There are a ton of cool fossils as well as stunning gems and jewelry. It is truly an eye catching shop that you should check out.

Make a fancy dinner at home! - Since most restaurants are still closed due to Covid, my friends and I made a delicious Italian meal to eat at our cabin. We spent our dinner gazing

outside and watching the sunset and the wildlife. It is fun to see the distinct differences in scenery and wildlife from our hometowns.

See the stunning night skyline! - At around 9:30 you can see the prettiest night view of what appears to be all of socal. If you go to a viewpoint on highway 18 you can get a stunning view!
